PRESS RELEASE DECEMBER 2010
From 30th March to 2nd April, Ferrara Fiere will play host to the XVIII Salone dell’Arte del Restauro e della Conservazione dei Beni Culturali e Ambientali, the first and foremost national event all focussed on the restoration of the Italian artistic heritage.
Products on display at the fair will range from restoration products and materials to light engineering for artistic and architectural applications, from explorative and diagnostic equipment and services to disinfection and pest-control technology, from vocational schools and institutions to museums, galleries, libraries and archives, from associations and public/private bodies to research and filing centres, cultural tourism, services, publishing.
MIBAC - Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali (the Italian Ministry of the Cultural Heritage) – through its institutions has chosen for years the Salone del Restauro di Ferrara to showcase what it does in the area of restoration and conservation.
In addition, this event is based on a close cooperation between Ferrara Fiere and different places of culture in Ferrara (museums, art galleries, ancient palaces), which will be open to the public all through the event for free and even at night, hosting special events which will eventually be described in a special calendar (downloadable from our website). So, visitors and even locals will rediscover the city’s places, monuments and works of art. All this, with the support of the Municipality and Province of Ferrara as well as the Italian Ministry of the Artistic and Cultural Heritage.
Guests will include IBC, l’Istituto per i Beni Artistici Culturali e Naturali della Regione Emilia Romagna (The Institute for the cultural, artistic and natural heritage of Emilia Romagna, which has always been a partner and supporter of the fair) and Artelibro Bologna, the Art Book Fair.
Many projects have been entered at Restauro by the University of Ferrara, with the Faculty of Architecture and DIAPREM. The most outstanding ones are an extremely interesting exhibition organised with the support of Fondazione Centro Studi Leon Battista Alberti of Mantova about Leon Battista Alberti, who, along with Brunelleschi, is regarded as the father of Renaissance architecture and still a paragon for any architect. The exhibition will include some plastic models, which are perfect replicas of some of the architect’s most important works, and an Alberti’s box inside which drawings of projects that were never completed by Alberti as well as his whole work will be screened in three-dimensional techniques.
Among other side events, the fair – in cooperation with Direzione Regionale per i beni culturali e paesaggistici dell’Emilia Romagna (the Regional Directorate for the cultural and natural heritage of Emilia Romagna) in agreement with the Municipality of Ferrara and Fondazione Museo Nazionale dell’Ebraismo e della Shoa of Ferrara (Foundation of the National Museum of Hebraism and Shoah of Ferrara) – is going to show and illustrate the important plan for the conversion of the former jail of Ferrara into the National Museum of Italian Hebraism and Shoa.
Another event held during the fair will be the “Restauro e Conservazione” Award, supported by Fassa Bortolo and the University of Ferrara – Faculty of Architecture, officially launched at last year’s “Restauro” fair, which will select the very first winner this year.
The international character of the fair is further confirmed by the participation of the Hermitage Museum of Saint Petersburg, with its 13 restoration workshops, in particular the recent restoration of a famous painting by Lorenzo Lotto.
Unesco, State of Malta, foreign delegations from the Mediterranean countries for b2b meetings with the exhibitors will be further contributions for those who will visit the fair on those days.
Many other themes are still to be defined.
